New Skull Base and Microvascular
Training Lab
Training Lab
We are excited to announce the completion and launch of our brand new, state-of-the-art skull base and microvascular training lab. Marking the start of a new era in hands-on surgical training, the lab will provide students, residents, and fellows with access to the latest technology while learning valuable microsurgical and endoscopic techniques and surgical anatomy.
Made possible by the generosity of a grateful head & neck cancer patient and with support from the UCI School of Medicine, the lab was designed by the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and built in conjunction with the Department of Neurosurgery. The original temporal bone lab was built with our original academic offices and used by trainees for many years but required updating with the demolition of our prior facilities.
Our new lab is double the size of the old one, with seven current workstations and capacity for five more. Each station is equipped with new wall-mounted microscopes and HD monitoring systems for observation and training in real-time. In addition to providing our trainees an invaluable resource, the lab allows the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery faculty to host advanced continuing medical education courses for physicians in the broader community and region as well.
